Dora the Explorer

Dora's face is a frozen buttercream transfer. The other little guy was made with color flow. So far Kaitlyn has only had birthday cakes made by me! She is turning out to be my best customer!! I feel that I probably will be in trouble once she dictates what her cakes will be! LOL!

Halloween Cake

Had lot of fun making this cake with lots of gummy candies for my work. They had a cake walk for the kids. Don't know who won it or if they liked it but I hope so. It was chocolate cake with buttercream frosting with chocolate fondant. The flames are buttercream.

My first wedding cake!

I was pretty pleased in how it turned out. The couple wanted owls on the top of the cake. I made these two from rice crispy treats. This was white cake with chocolate nutella buttercream filling.

Wedding Shower

Made this wedding shower cake for a couple of teachers. Used my new buttercream recipe that is not so sweet as some - it tastes more like whip cream. The roses were pressed molds. Stayed up really late on a work night for this one!

Hubby's Birthday - Part Two

So for the family party I made a wine bottle cake sitting in a wine crate. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be. The crate walls didn't want to stay up on the cake and had to use a lot of support until they dried. Tasted fabulous though and in the end isn't that what everyone wants?? Made a cheese wheel to go beside it in all buttercream. In the end Val told me that I should cut a piece out of it to make it more realistic looking.

Hubby's Birthday

He turned the big 5-0 this year so we had two parties and two cakes! The first was a friends party with a Jimmy Buffett "A Pirate Turns 50" theme. Since he loves his mojitos the bottom layer was a mojito flavored cake. I thought the little pirate guy on top looked like Johnny Depp. He has his one little tankard sitting up there with him. Used my new cricut cake machine on this one!

Shopping Cake

To celebrate a 40th birthday I made this zebra shopping bag cake.

Green Eggs and Ham

One of the teachers at my school asked me to make a cake for her class to celebrate Dr. Seuss day. I carved this cake to look like a ham and added the green eggs.

Baby Shower

We had a great baby shower picnic for my niece and her husband this weekend. This was the first baby shower for the guys. My sister gave me creative license with the cake. It was all buttercream as my brother-in-law hates fondant. The mother and father-to-be enjoyed the cake.

Welcome!

This is my first step into the world of blogging. I have been creating cakes for a year now. It all started when my hubby thought I could make his parents' golden wedding anniversary cake for about 120. About a month before the event my daughter and I went and took a basic class at the craft store. We learned quite a bit and I knew that I had found a new hobby. The cake was a success with the people at the party even though it caused the caterer a lot of headaches when cutting - you see I thought I wouldn't need any separators under each layer. It was a rough rendition of their wedding cake. Val and I made all the flowers in royal icing and dusted the roses with gold luster dust. When we got to the party we had a 50 in color flow for the top. So that was the beginning........
